Weekend self-care open thread: Black rock and roll

Let's put this to rest, shall we?

All of our favorite white rock bands stand on the shoulders of Black giants. And most of these white rock bands would acknowledge that great debt they owe to Black American musicians. No Chuck Berry, no Beatles. No Sister Rosetta Tharpe, no Chuck Berry. You draw a line from the Rolling Stones back to Black gospel music. (The less said about Eric Clapton's racism while stealing from Black blues musicians the better. At least for this weekend.)

It's no secret that modern rock music is not festooned with Black artists. But they still exist. And this weekend we shall honor them, focusing on those who ply their trade now.

First, one of the progenitors of punk rock. And it was a band of Black musicians from Detroit.

And now, more music.

Rock on Wayne. Rock on Garth.

As always, be ever kind to yourselves and those around you.
