Weekend self-care open thread: In memoriam, Charlie Watts

Charlie Watts, drummer for the Rolling Stones, passed away this week at the age of 80.

Growing up, my musical tastes were first formed by my eldest brother. And that meant that I was raised on a diet of the Stones and the Beatles. The Stones were the dark, dangerous band, steeped in the blues, going in a different direction than the Fab Four.

Charlie Watts made two decisions within a year of each other: First, he joined the band. Secondly, he married a woman who would be his wife for the rest of his life. Knowing who you are and what you want at that young of an age, and sticking to it, is something to be admired.

Charlie and the Stones were one of the bands which formed my early tastes, and which allowed me to go out and explore other music. With his passing, an era has ended. One of the last of the British Invasion, his death closes a chapter.

For this weekend's self-care, we will revel in the music he made, both with the Stones and without.

Enjoy jamming with the celestial band, Charlie. Your light will be missed.

As always, be beautiful to yourselves and to those around you.
