Friday open thread: Biden's Katrinas

Joe Biden has been in office for just about five months, and boy howdy has he had a lot of scandals and crises according to our vaunted political press.

Remember the "border crisis"? KIDS ARE FILLING UP OUR DETENTION CENTERS!! THIS IS A DEMOCRATIC FAILURE!! That crisis lasted about a Scaramucci and a half, as a competent government got the situation under control and was able to place unaccompanied minors with family members.

Or how about the Colonial hack? "THERE'S NO GAS!!! BIDEN IS THROWING US INTO A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY!!!" Well, it turned out that the gas could have flown all the time, but the hack disrupted Colonial's ability to charge customers, thus they cut the flow. And now the administration is putting ransomware attacks on the same level as terrorism. That crisis went down the memory hole right quick.

Then there was "BIDEN IS LETTING HAMAS BOMB ISRAEL TO THE STONE AGE!!" Or, conversely, "BIDEN IS ABETTING ISRAELI WAR CRIMES!!! DO SOMETHING!!" You know my opinion on this: A pox on both their houses. But Pres. Biden and his diplomats worked tirelessly behind the scenes, pushing Israel to a cease-fire, while the Egyptians mediated between the two sides. That, too, evaporated as an existential crisis.

And then, of course: "BIDEN'S UNEMPLOYMENT IS TOO GENEROUS!! PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO WORK!!" Instead:

The U.S. economy added 559,000 jobs in May, the latest sign of a strengthening recovery as vaccinations rise and Covid restrictions ease nationwide.

The unemployment rate dropped slightly from 6.1 percent to 5.8 percent, according to the monthly report, from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The gains were driven strongly by jobs added at restaurants, bars and other food-service establishments, which added 186,000 workers in the month.

Joe Biden is "No Drama Obama" taken to an even higher level. He doesn't govern by soundbite or the 24/7 news cycle. We saw the former guy do that, with deleterious results. Pres. Biden and his team just plug along, doing what they know will work, and let the howlers howl themselves hoarse.

We're fighting a multifront war to save this nation. One of the most pernicious opponents is the political media, which can't seem to function unless everything is seemingly falling apart. Clicks and eyeballs are their metrics, not truth and explanation. We'll make it, but it'll be a harder slog than it needs to be.
