Mini-Super Tuesday open thread: Part 1
Good morning, everyone!
Well, we have an exciting evening ahead of us. Bernie Sanders could be knocked out of the presidential race by evening's end, as Joe Biden amasses an insurmountable lead. Just two weeks ago, after Nevada, Biden had been left for dead. Amazing how things turn.
A few words about my antipathy towards Sanders.
Although I'm bothered by his obvious love for left-wing dictators—including the Cuban caudillo whose policies led directly to my father having a stroke and heart attack when I was one year old—that's not his most execrable quality.
What I loathe about Bernie is that he's someone who's never done anything worthwhile in his life, who has just coasted along, and now thinks he has the nous to fix all that ails us. He sells his followers a bill of goods; like any televangelist, he posits that if you just give him money and keep him going they'll see the Promised Land. They don't have to do any work, just show up for his rallies. And they certainly don't have to convince anyone else; they're right, and that's all that matters, not the messy work of building a coalition across a diverse country.
Bernie Sanders is the epitome of the mediocre white man who keeps failing upwards. This is his greatest sin: giving hope to millions, with no real ability to deliver on his promises.
Anyhoo, strap in. Today will be a year.
