True Crime Friday: Anatoly Yuriyovych Onoprienko, the Terminator Serial and Spree Killer


Anatoly Yuriyovych Onoprienko was born July 25, 1959, in Ukraine. You got to be some kind of evil to be a serial and spree killer. As I delve further into this story you will see why he has these distinct monikers. He killed roughly, fifty-two people including entire families. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigations Crime Unit criminal behavior reflects personality. By analyzing the actions, a criminal takes during a crime, behavioral analysts (also known as criminal profilers) may be able to determine what type of person committed the crime.

The Early Childhood of Anatoly Onoprienko

Anatoly Onoprienko was born in Ukraine. His father served in the army and was highly decorated during the Second World War. Onoprienko's mother died when he was four years old. He lived with his grandparents and then an aunt for a while before being sent to an orphanage. It was said that he resented his father for sending him to an orphanage while his older brother continued to live with his father. Anatoly Onoprienko later stated in an interview that this slight lead him down the path he took to becoming a killer. Anatoly Onoprienko remarked that seventy percent of those brought up in orphanages end up in prison as adults.

According to behavior science, serial killers generally do not start killing in their thirties. They start during their teenage years. He must have been killing people unnoticed for years. Onoprienko was deported from Munich as an illegal immigrant in the year 1992. It is suspected that he murdered people during his time through Western Europe. Onoprienko engaged in petty crimes and thefts. He denied any involvement in the murders in Western Europe. Interpol confirms his involvement in minor crimes but raises doubts about his ability to suppress his urge to kill for five years.

Lady Justice

He reported that at one time he had an accomplice but decided to go it alone. Onoprienko was eventually captured by authorities ending his killing spree. He had one hundred twenty-two weapons in his possession. Several of those weapons would be matched to his victims. He confessed to at least eight killings between 1989 and 1995. While in custody, Onoprienko claimed that he killed in response to commands he was given by inner voices. Anatoly Onoprienko died in prison August 27, 2013.
