Weekend self-care open thread: Ladies and gentlemen, Sting!
I came to know The Police at the same time as I began reading The Lord of the Rings. So, I have always associated that band's main songwriter with Frodo Baggins' sword.
I know it's not "cool" to like Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner. But this tantra yoga devotee has been part of my musical life since I was a wee lad. Is he sometimes pretentious? Sure. But he is one of those songwriters who can turn such a wonderful phrase.
What I love about his songwriting is its unabashed literariness. He doesn't trade in jejune phrasing. He will reference Nabokov, and not be ashamed of it.
For this weekend's self-care, I'm going to focus on his solo work. But please, post any of your favorites, either post-Police or with that dysfunctional, amazing band.
One day we'll laugh in our joy, and we will sing our freedom.
As always, dear friends, be ever kind, gentle, and joyful, with yourselves and those around you.
