The Early Childhood of Diego Ruiz Restrepo
Not much is known about his mother. She was a teenager when he was born. Once she became pregnant her partner left her. Diego went to live with his maternal grandparents. Diego was forced to drop out of school to help support the family. The allure of easy money through criminal means proved tempting. Before moving to Chile, Deigo lived in a poverty-stricken area during the height of the drug wars in Columbia. He was exposed to extreme violence at an early age. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) indictors growing up in extreme poverty and being exposed to violence at an early age can lead to becoming a serial killer. There are many people that live in or are currently living in poverty but do not become serial killers. From an early age Diego Ruiz Restrepo had a violent temper. He was a student at Colegio Carlos Holmes Trujillo. He worked as a mechanic for five years. When his mother decided to move to Chile, he decided to follow her posing as a tourist for three years. Diego met a woman and had a son with her. Her brother-in-law said Diego was an acholic and an abuser. Ruiz stabbed his sister, mother, grandfather and grand stepfather. They all had to take out a restraining order on him for their safety. Ruiz was a dangerous person. It was reported that he had been involved in several conflicts in his neighborhood. He was reported to the police for his disruptive and violent behavior. He was known to the police because of robberies he had committed. He could not obtain legal citizenship because of his violent police record.
The Less Dead Theory
This term refers to the victims of serial killers who are from marginalized groups of people that society deems least worthy because of their social status. Serial killers generally target sex workers, women, children, drug users, homosexuals, farm workers, hospital patients and the elderly. These groups are considered less dead because society ignored these groups when they were alive, so police put these types of victims on the back burner to solve their cases making them less day after death. Believe it or not, during the Grim Sleeper reign of terror, a woman was being interviewed for the documentary when she said she saw a file that police had marked LD. She asked what LD meant since she had seen this label on files pertaining to mostly black women that the unknown serial killer at the time had committed. It was then that she learned the term Less Dead. The documentary is chilling to say the least. Of course, it would be discovered that Lonnie Franklin, Sr., was the infamous Grim Sleeper Serial Killer. The Victims of Diego Ruiz Restrepo
