Weekend self-care open thread: Killing me softly

Happy weekend, friends!

We come together this weekend not to mourn Ms. Roberta Flack, but to celebrate her. How can one shed tears when her music elevates one and makes one joyful? No, my friends, we are going to honor this luminary, this tzaddik, and make a joyful noise. The passing of good and decent people should be a moment for a celebration of their lives, not an occasion for dwelling on their absence. For, if they have lived a good and righteous life, they will always be here, in our memories, in the culture.

Ms. Flack originally began to pursue a career in classical music, until her voice teacher told her that she had a much brighter future in popular music—advice that she took to heart, and which has gifted us with wonderful songs which will live on for decades.

So, my friends, raise your voices. A great one has gone to the place which awaits us all. May they welcome her with the honor she deserves.

As always, dear friends, be ever kind, gentle, and joyful with yourselves and those around you.
