Weekend self-care open thread: Belated Happy Black Music Month!

Well. June was Black Music Month. And, well, June was also momentous for breaking news. So we didn't have a chance to celebrate the contributions of Black music artists to the world of music.

As I've said on more than one occasion: American music is Black music. Even country music has roots in the music created by Black people on the plantations. Jazz, blues, rock and roll, dance music, hip hop; the list goes on. America's most valuable cultural export is the art created by Black people or based on the art of Black people. No less a luminary of the European music canon, Antonin Dvorak, averred during his time in the United States: "The future of this country must be founded upon what are called the Negro melodies."

So, without further ado, let's do a dive into Black music.

And so many more, so be sure to share in the comments.

As always, dear friends, be ever kind and gentle to yourselves and those around you.
