Tuesday open thread: X marks the spot... OR DOES IT?!
Well, the big news from yesterday was Elon Musk rebranding Twitter as "X".
Of course, this is a farcical move. As was commented, that was like buying Coca-Cola and rebranding it "Fizzy Farts".
But it gets even more hilarious.
Firstly, this is what happened when Mr. Musk ordered the Twitter logo to be removed from his squat in San Francisco:
Well, that was a jolly good laugh, and we all had a bit of fun.Welp, @twitter name so coming off the building right now but @elonmusk didn’t get permit for the equipment on the street so @SFPD is shutting it down. pic.twitter.com/CFpggWwhhf

But wait! There's more!
So, no one put in a permit with San Francisco to block streets to take down the old logo, and no one performed even a cursory Patent Office search to make sure that "X" wasn't already taken as a brand. It appears Instagram and FB owner Meta holds the trademark for "X" as it relates to "online social networking services... social networking services in the fields of entertainment, gaming and application development..." https://t.co/vb2r67ZOzb

As an information professional, this pains me. All of this could have been avoided if the bare minimum of research had been done. But I guess when you think you're a master of the universe, who is about to create a conglomerate which will dominate across all sectors of the world economy, such concerns are trifling trivialities.
God save us from mediocre white men. Speaking of which, we're on indictment watch today. So, this post could go "poof" at any moment.
Anyway, here's some real X.
