The Kids Are Alright
The kids love them some Uncle Joe.
Which doesn't bode well for the Great Democratic Horse Race Of 2024.
Because while our media would love for there to be a prominent (read: NOT Marianne Williamson) challenger to President Joe Biden, the truth of the matter is that Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. is absolutely worthy of being the party's nominee in 2024. Other than the ageist argument that nobody has been in the Oval Office at age 86 as Biden would be should he complete two full terms, there really exists no reason for Biden not to run for a second term. Despite continual grumblings from the Nina Turners of the world, there is little to no dissatisfaction as to the way in which Biden has governed, especially with everything he accomplished with a razor-thin majority over the past two years. With hundreds of thousands of new eligible voters set to join the rolls over the next 21 months, expect Biden's popularity to increase in the time leading up to his full re-election campaign pushing those favorables even higher amongst our youngest voting demographics.
We should all be hopeful that we may finally be turning the tide in our seven-year battle to turn back the insurgents of the Democratic Party. With the recent crushing defeat of Democratic socialists in Nevada, there is a return to normalcy settling in, especially since such a perceived "Establishment Democrat" like Joe Biden can turn out to be the most progressive president in a half-century. Those that were wooed by Bernie Sanders in 2016 and Andrew Yang in 2020 have now seen that talk is cheap and that having experience in government is actually helpful in navigating the twists and turns in Washington. Sure, there remains those out there that will once again deny Joe Biden their vote in 2024 but these voters now more than ever can not and should not be taken seriously. The Democratic Party is the only thing keeping the United States from falling into full-on fascism and any voter willing to vote third party or withhold their vote completely is a seriously unserious individual at this point in time.
Young voters see this. They see Joe Biden as someone who has their backs. Yes, his action on student loans is part of that. But it's more than that single issue. Young voters don't have time to dick around anymore. There are real-life consequences to voting third party or not voting as we saw in 2016. From women losing their bodily autonomy to the censorship of public education to the ongoing war against the transgender community to the vilification of scientists and intellectuals during the COVID-19 pandemic, young voters have seen the Republican Party's slow, methodical march toward fascism. To tell the latest generation who they can love, what they can read, and where they can and cannot go for basic health care needs is simply unacceptable. This is the generation crushed by both student loan debt and active shooter drills. Everything and everyone they care about is currently being threatened by the GOP. And only Joe Biden stands in their way from those threats becoming reality.
We like to joke about boomers. But the truth is they have raised the most progressive generation to date. Many of us learned our empathy from our parents and even saw through their flaws and antiquated views on those different from us. Yet the foundation was there. The foundation that helped us reach our own conclusions by getting outside our comfort zones. We were taught that we would become more conservative as we aged. Yet for 20 years we've seen zero reason to ever vote for a single Republican candidate. Now that they've embraced the Big Lie and the newest iteration of the culture wars, we have even less reason to even consider voting for a single Republican at any level of local or federal government. Knowing what's at stake, we know that it's Biden or Bust for 2024.
And we know that's gonna make whole lot of media pundits ever so disappointed.
