Weekend self-care open thread: In memoriam Burt Bacharach
Last weekend we took a break from our normal self-care to support the people of Turkey and Syria devastated by the twin earthquakes which hit the region two weeks ago. Because of that, we didn't commemorate the passing of one of the titans of American popular music, Burt Bacharach.
Burt worked with everyone, from Dionne Warwick to Elvis Costello. He wrote the kind of sophisticated popular music which put him in the same realm as Cole Porter and Duke Ellington. He was one of the greats who came out of the ferment of the 1960s, as music evolved at breakneck speed.
For this weekend's self-care, we shall honor his art.
Did I play Elvis Costello's album with Burt Bacharach over and over again? Yes, I did.
Be ever excellent to yourselves and those around you, dear friends. And appreciate the beauty that this world produces for us.
