Oh sweet Jesus, where do I start?

So, I came across Ron DeSantis' tweet yesterday.

Again, where do I start?

DeSantis is instituting a fascist state in Florida. A state where you can't speak about gay issues, about issues of race, about issues of inequity.

He doesn't hold press conferences where he's held to account. He throws reporters out of his appearances. 

Donald Trump attacks him daily, but he demurs from hitting back.

He surrounds himself with lackeys who will say this his shit don't stank.

Ron DeSantis is the white alpha male. He is on a par with the likes of Tucker Carlson and Scott Adams. He revels in white grievance, but just don't tell him to his face that he's full of crap, or he'll melt.

And, of course, he's grifter. "Buy my book!"

If he had the courage to be free, he'd accept criticism. He'd accept differing points of view. He wouldn't be banning any opinion which differed from his.

This is the freedom which the likes of DeSantis parrot: a freedom to wallow in victimhood, that White people are the truly oppressed community. That "woke" liberals are shoving their agenda down their throats. That all we need is a return to traditional American values.

People like DeSantis know that their time is limited. They know that those of us who oppose them are gaining in strength, year by year. They know that their voters are dying off at accelerated rates. (Hey, don't get that Covid vaccine! That'll work out swell!) His allies like Marjorie Taylor Greene know that if blue state voters move to red states in increasing numbers, blue states will remain blue, and red states will go at least purple. Thus the talk of a "national divorce", and preventing new immigrants from voting. So they throw all the shit they can at the wall and see what sticks.

Culture wars play well to the GOP base. But that electorate is 30% of the voting public. And the other 70% is turned off by these fripperies. 

Ron DeSantis is a bad American, and a bad Catholic. I bet he disagrees root and branch with Vatican II, which, among other things, condemned antisemitism. He is a throwback to an extinct evolutionary line.

Look. If in your life you want to be an unreformed reactionary, then go ahead. That doesn't give you the right to impose your Weltanschauung on the rest of us. Go live in the 19th century. Leave the rest of us to progress.

As a Cuban-American, there's a reason I have no desire to visit Miami. My community there is ensnared by the likes of DeSantis. I have no need to interact with them. And this country has no need to imbibe at the trough of reaction.

Enjoy your grift, Ron. Just leave this Republic alone.
