Weekend Self-Care: Shakira, Shakira
Time to unwind, kids.
Between the GOP going full-treason and the "squad" going full-Bernie, yesterday was a hell of a week. So it feels like we could all use a bit of a reprise this weekend.
Not everyone here is a sports fan but this weekend is the Super Bowl, the championship game of the National Football League. Year in and year out, it is the most-viewed sporting event in the world. Thirty-second commercials this year come with a hefty $5.6 million price tag. But along with the spectacle of the game and the commercials comes an annual tradition: the Super Bowl halftime show.
Built into the game is a 25-minute mini-concert on the world stage that attracts the world's biggest artists. Previous performers have included Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Prince, and Bruce Springsteen among others. This year, with the game in Miami, we have two Latina stars taking the stage in Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. For today's thread, we include the music of Colombian-born Shakira, the lesser-known of the two artists, but one who is unquestionably talented. And apologies to the men in our audience; Shakira is married to Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique.
As always, take care of yourselves and your loved ones this weekend.
