Weekend self-care open thread—Singing the blues

To close out Black History Month, the African American art which led to almost all of American popular music: the blues.

One cannot overstate what an influence the blues have had not only on American culture, but world culture. There would be no jazz, no rock, no rap without the blues. The blues are the genesis of the popular musical culture we enjoy now. When we say that American music is Black music, that's not an exaggeration. White English boys like Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton had their life paths set by Robert Johnson. The next time you listen to Jeff Beck, light a candle for Skip James in gratitude.

So, as we watch the South Carolina returns, let's listen to some sweet blues.

As always, take care of yourselves and those around you.
