On Merrick Garland and "YOU HAD ONE JOB"

Just as an aside, this is why I have no truck with "Occupy Democrats", and would urge all of you to not post their memes. Their stock in trade is rage, and it's how they make money. (And the same with the Krassenstein Brothers.)

But let us take this deeper.

Yes, it's a common theme that the former attorney general's decisions led to Donald Trump being re-elected. That he was solely responsible for his ascension to a second term to the presidency. That Trump should have been arrested as soon as Joe Biden had taken the oath of office, or before, when, let me remind you, Trump was in office.

Should he have? Maybe. Surely, South Korea moved more expeditiously. But that's South Korea. We have our own laws. And in the totality of our history, no president has ever been arrested and prosecuted for what amounted to treason. You'd best be sure to dot all i's and cross all t's.

I'm not here to defend Merrick Garland. Yes, I would have moved more aggressively. But I wasn't attorney general. And I won't judge him.

Would you rather have an attorney general who is punctilious in matters of law? Or one like Pam Bondi, who is nothing but the president's mouthpiece?

The fact of the matter remains. When it seemed sure that Trump was not going to face a judge for his treason, the choice was left to the voters. And the voters failed. They failed miserably.

People who want to blame Merrick Garland do so to escape the fact that their fellow-citizens abdicated their responsibilities. Voters voted Trump back into office. Being in prison is no barrier to running for the presidency. Are we sure he wouldn't have one from Florence? I have no assurance.

The reason for Donald Trump being back in office is due to voters. Not on any failing of Merrick Garland. Voters had a choice, and they chose the scorpion. You can scream all you want about Garland. But the fact remains that when democracy was on the ballot, voters chose the man who promised to end it.

Blaming Merrick Garland is an easy way to elide responsibility. Moreover: It's an easy way to excuse the people in your family for choosing evil. "If Trump weren't on the ballot, my meemaw wouldn't have voted for him!" Eugene Debs was on the ballot from prison. That was no barrier. All that the Constitution says is that you have to be 35 and a natural born citizen. It says nothing about your criminal status.

Stop blaming Merrick Garland for the abdication of the American voter. Voters elected him. Voters must bear the blame. They should not be let off the hook. "I didn't vote for this!" Yes, you did. You had a choice, and you chose evil. That will be to your eternal shame. Merrick Garland had nothing to do with this. It was due to your own weakness. And, no, don't come at me with "they were fed propaganda!" We all were. And 75 million of us saw through it. The information was out there. You just chose to not seek it out.

At some point adults have to own up to the choices they make. And I'm not one to excuse them. You knew. And you punted. You sowed the wind. Now we will all reap the whirlwind.
