Weekend-Self Care: We Want The Funk!

Happy weekend, funky Barflies!

Throughout the week, there has been much desire to get funky over this holiday weekend and since LL and I are the people's blog lords, we're more than happy to oblige.

This weekend's open-care is brought to you by the funky sounds of none other than Parliament Funkadelic or P-Funk to their fans. While I admit I missed their glory years in the 60s and 70s, I'm proud to say that P-Funk has a special place in my heart. For five summers, I served as a sports camp counselor in Maine at a camp that was founded in the early 80s. Like all camps, this one was rooted in its traditions and one of those traditions was to end each end-of-session camp dance with none other than P-Funk's "Flash Light" playing in the background of a lively soul train line. It may have been well over 20 years since the song's release but nearly 100 campers, aged 8-15, got down and boogeyed their way through that line, a proud testament to the enduring legacy of Mr. George Clinton and his brilliant band of funky sisters and brothers.

For this long holiday weekend, we enjoy P-Funk and the genre as a whole. Take care of your yourselves and your loved ones this week and, as always, stay as funky as possible.
