is he really this much of a moron? Yes, yes he is.

While Jonathan Turley was laving Donald Trump's scrotum in defending him from any impeachment action by the House, and Pamela Karlan told some GOP troglodyte to go pound salt as to whom she voted for, impeachment-related doings were afoot.

At this point we have to wonder how Rudy Giuliani dresses and feeds himself. He's obviously not a well man. But what the New York Times reported him doing is just beyond gobsmacking in both its chutzpah and its stupidity:
Even as Democrats intensified their scrutiny this week of Rudolph W. Giuliani’s role in the pressure campaign against the Ukrainian government that is at the heart of the impeachment inquiry, Mr. Giuliani has been in Europe continuing his efforts to shift the focus to purported wrongdoing by President Trump’s political rivals.
Mr. Giuliani, the president’s personal lawyer, met in Budapest on Tuesday with a former Ukrainian prosecutor, Yuriy Lutsenko, who has become a key figure in the impeachment inquiry. He then traveled to Kyiv on Wednesday seeking to meet with other former Ukrainian prosecutors whose claims have been embraced by Republicans, including Viktor Shokin and Kostiantyn H. Kulyk, according to people familiar with the effort.
The former prosecutors, who have faced allegations of corruption, all played some role in promoting claims about former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., a former United States ambassador to Ukraine and Ukrainians who disseminated damaging information about Mr. Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, in 2016.
His client is facing impeachment and removal over l'affaire Burisma. He, himself, seems to be in the FBI's crosshairs for the same activity. But Giuliani decided that flying to Ukraine now, to continue in his excellent adventure, was the smart play.

As a writer, I try to place myself in other people's shoes. I try to determine their motivations, why they take this action or don't take that action. But try as I might, I can't figure out Rudes.

His continued beating of a dead horse to shift the narrative to "It was Hillary and the Democrats who tried to rig 2016!!" is beyond farcical. At this point, it seems to fall squarely into the DSM-V. He's Ahab without the poetry and with a brain made of Swiss cheese from years of alcohol abuse. He's the guy who keeps stepping on rakes.

And, of course, he's doing none of this without Donald Trump's blessing. Mauron may be distancing himself from Rudes, but he really has no other play. His only (fleeting) hope is to muddy the waters enough to tire the public of the whole rigmarole. His only hope is to convince enough people that they're all crooks, and hide behind that disgust.

The problem is that it hasn't been working. Support for impeachment and removal keeps growing. Democrats in the House aren't tiring or hedging bets. Every action the regime takes makes Trump look more complicit, criminal, and laughable.

That it's not working, though, is besides the point. In their minds Trump and Giuliani are world-bestriding ubermenschen, fated to decide the outcome of historical events. They will usher in a new America, one shorn of any regard for the weak and feeble. An America where everyone will know their place, or else. Their ignorant hubris is their downfall, either now or in 2020.

These two would be pitiable, were they not in temporary positions of power, with the ability to affect the lives of millions. But let them continue their machinations; it's just more sauce for the goose.
