Weekend self-care open thread: In memoriam Peabo Bryson and Anthony Head

You know what? I'm getting really sick and tired of decent, lovely human beings being sent to meet their Maker, while that same Maker allows the evil and venal to prosper and live. It's almost enough to make one believe that a Maker doesn't exist, and the Universe cares not one whit for us.

This week we lost two great lights: Peabo Bryson and Anthony Head. Mr. Bryson had a long and storied career as a musician who formed part of the soundtrack of our lives. And Mr. Head was a wonderful actor, known for his portrayal of librarian Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who, as with many of us librarians, was much more than he appeared to be.

These two men informed much of my youth. They entertained and educated me. And their passing is yet another reminder that we will eventually have more years behind us than ahead of us, so we had best make the most of what we have left.

We commend their souls to posterity. They have done more for humanity than many of the people who now strut around, preening in their supposed and unearned "greatness".

Rest in peace, great souls.

As always, dear friends, be ever kind, gentle, and joyful with yourselves and those around you.
